The Road to Avoca

After supper the group splits in two

I stay with the local few

It’s perfectly still 

On Vinegar Hill

Where we read what the rebels would do.

The many go off to Bree [bräe]

Where the Tumbling Paddies would play

Fraz’r takes his chance

On the first line dance

Two left feet just get in the way.

In the morning we split up again 

The revellers seeking easy terrain 

They go straight to Courtown

As we circle round

Via Wexford, dodging the rain.

Now Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid

Had no bikes, but sure if they did

They’d pedal around 

For their big showdown 

Between Ballygarrett and Kilmuckridge.

Avoca’s a beautiful spot

Thomas Moore liked it a lot

Two boys strip

To go for a dip

So the grape-vine will shortly be hot.
