Lochailort to Inverness

It is shocking to find that it took us nearly three years to pick up the route in Scotland, but then we were not exactly idle. And we had to find some way to do a big chunk of Scotland at once, as it takes so long to get there. So we persuaded Claire and Mel to do the driving on the basis that they could do some great walks while we were pedalling, forgetting to mention that they would have to drive to-and-fro to pick us up and drop us off, as the accommodation was a bid sparse. We had also heard that the Outer Hebrides route could be stunning, in the right conditions, so we thought why not? And by now we had clearly decided that the objective was not to get to J O’G but to do the whole of the coast of Britain. So we planned to finish up in Inverness, which was as far as we could get in the time available.
By this time the rhyming had started, so the story of this journey is in verse. But the mishaps started long before we got to Scotland. Den had trouble with the train service on the way to our rendezvous point, so we had to kill a lot of time in Lancaster while waited to see what trains were available, and then picked him up in Penrith instead. Not the first, and certainly not the last, time that Den has had train journey trouble. But thankfully we still made the start point in Lochailort before some other transportation challenges surfaced…
