Chester to Ravenglass

(28 - 31 October 2019)
Fresh from doing the Welsh coast, Den and I fitted in a short trip to Ravenglass (where we had started Hadrian’s Way, back in September 2016).
It was fun getting the ferry across the Mersey and Den was taken by the Gormley figures on Crosby beach. We wanted to stop overnight in Formby, but couldn’t find any accommodation because apparently all the best property there has been bought up by football millionaires. Blackpool illuminations were on full display but it was strangely very quiet, so we went to a dull movie and had an early night. We were told the pubs wouldn’t get busy till 10:30, which was well past our bedtime after a hard days pedalling…
We had a pleasant four days of good weather, but a storm was coming in, so we finished a day early by taking a short cut by rail between Arnside and Grange-over-Sands and so avoided a long dog-leg round the estuary. The storm duly arrived after we’d finished, but we didn’t avoid a good soaking the next morning, which we got on the way from our digs in Grange-over-Sands to the station.
